Artist Statement

Julie McLachlan a multidisciplinary artist that based in Brisbane, QLD. Her creative practice currently consists of drawing and painting. In her current interest, she has taken an interest in the human figure and anatomy to which she distorts to enhance certain aspects of the body.

The audience that interacts with the works has a sense of curiosity by first asking the question ‘why’ has she done this to her figures and giving them their own interpretation.  Her works are usually based on her experiences or relations to the topic she is exploring. She also explores the same concepts through her family and friends.  The current topics are a natural part of humans development of the mind and body. Her primary interest right now is the brain and how it controls the body in different environments or in familiar situations. In her current projects, she has explored the Notion of Sleep by using soft pastel drawings.

Her style has changed a lot throughout her development as an artist. Her progression through her most recent studies shows that she depicts expression of the humans disconnect with the rest of the world and in a dream-like realm. Such as the minds way to form dreams in a subconscious state and how this is related back to the bodies movements and emotions or their relation to the environment.
